Honoring King. Protecting Heroes.
Last week, we said goodbye to our beloved the symbol of Gentle Beast, Kingster, who lived 15 years and 4 months and served faithfully as an explosive detection K9 for the Department of Homeland Security. King spent his life protecting our country—now, in his memory, we want to protect others like him.
They Protected Us. Now It’s Our Turn to Protect Them.
Every day, law enforcement dogs risk their lives to keep us safe. With their extraordinary sense of smell, they’ve stopped explosives, firearms, and even nuclear materials from entering our country. They’ve tracked dangerous criminals, caught arsonists, intercepted tons of illegal drugs, and stood guard at some of America’s most sensitive sites.
These dogs are true heroes. They ask for nothing—only to serve.
But when their working years are over, more than 10,000 K9s retire each year. And here’s the heartbreaking truth: once retired, the agencies they served no longer provide for them.
Handlers want nothing more than to bring their partners home. But caring for an aging K9 can cost $2,000–$3,000 per year in veterinary bills, especially for dogs injured in the line of duty. Retired dogs also lose the housing protections they once had, leaving many handlers struggling to keep the very partners who once had their backs.
This is where King’s legacy lives on.
In honor of King, we are establishing a foundation dedicated to supporting retired K9s in our local community.
Our mission is simple: to help these heroes the medical care, safe homes, and dignity they deserve after a lifetime of service.
With your help, no retired law enforcement dog will have to spend their final years in a shelter. Instead, they will be able to live out their days surrounded by love—alongside the families and handlers who served with them.

先週、私たちの愛するキングスターが15歳と4か月の生涯を終え、静かに旅立ちました。彼は爆発物探知犬として、長年にわたり忠実に国を守ってくれました。
キングは命をかけて私たちの国を守ってくれました。
今度は、私たちが彼の仲間たちを守る番です。
「彼らが私たちを守ってくれた。今度は、私たちが彼らを守る番。」
日々、法執行機関のK9（警察犬）たちは、自らの命を懸けて私たちの安全を守っています。
卓越した嗅覚で爆発物や銃器、さらには核物質の侵入を防ぎ、凶悪犯の追跡、放火犯の摘発、数トンに及ぶ違法薬物の押収、そして国家の重要施設の警備にも尽力してきました。
彼らは本物のヒーローです。見返りを求めず、ただ使命のために仕えてきました。
しかし、そのキャリアを終えた後、毎年1万頭以上のK9たちが引退します。
そして悲しい現実として、多くのケースでは、彼らが仕えてきた機関は引退後のサポートを提供していないのです。
ハンドラー（担当者）は、パートナーを家庭に迎え入れたいと強く願っています。
ですが、引退した犬の医療費は年間2,000〜3,000ドルにも及ぶことがあり、現役時代に負った怪我がその負担をさらに大きくします。
さらに、現役時代に適用されていた住居に関する保護制度も失われ、多くのハンドラーが愛するパートナーと共に暮らすことすら困難になっています。
